Faith Wiltshire Award and Tea

Faith Wiltshire, 1939-1994

Mrs. Wiltshire

During her Term as Coordinator, the Network of NGOs saw participation at national level towards the formulation of a policy on Women and the ratifying, by the Government of T&T, of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. Faith also encouraged the Network of NGOs to seek membership in regional organisations. Expert lobbying on her part enabled the Network to bring the voice of Caribbean youth into the hallowed halls of the Regional Economic Conference, 1991, with the avant-garde popular theatre piece, “Poised But Bound”. Her skills also gave the opportunities to enjoy observer status at other regional conferences thereby expanding the Network’s scope of participation. Faith’s Legacy to the Network, and by extension all women in Trinidad and Tobago include commitment, a discipline and dignified approach that elevated tasks to a position worthy of attention, and the kind of respect for persons made  viable in the Network’s International Women’s Day Award for the otherwise unrecognized, hardworking woman.

The Network of Non-Governmental Organisations of Trinidad and Tobago for the Advancement of Women continues to pay public tribute to Faith for her contributions to the women of this society, through this award.
