2012 Young Woman of the year award team and the finalist with the then President, the Honourable, Maxwell Richards.

The Young Woman of the Year Award is is meant to showcase the talent, perseverance, dedication and spirit of young women in Trinidad and Tobago. Nominations are invited for young women, between the ages of 18 and 30, who have made significant contributions and/or achievement in the areas of Environment, Agriculture, Business Enterprise, Arts & Culture, Community Work and Sports.

The first Young Woman of the Year, Shane de Silva, was nominated in 2003 in the Sport category. She is a FIFA football referee, a member of the West Indies Women’s Cricket team, as well as a physical education instructor for physically challenged youth.

“To significantly enhance the value assigned to, and bring to public attention, the personal and professional achievements of young women between the ages of 18 and 30 in Trinidad and Tobago.”

 The Award’s objectives are:

  • To focus on young women’s quest for identity and a way to find meaning and a place in the world
  • To publicly recognise the achievement of young women in the fields of Agriculture, Environment, Business Enterprise, Arts & Culture, Community Work and Sports.
  • To record the achievements of all women nominated in each category.
  • To deliver, to each finalist and to the winner of the Award, a sum of money to set the stage for or further their professional goals or objectives.
  • To facilitate a social and/or professional network of all nominees to continue to support each other in their respective lives and careers.
  • To afford the nominees an opportunity to interact with other like-minded professionals in order to enhance their leadership and other skills

This award uplifts and encourages young women to be their best.
